Can you imagine a life that doesn’t include worrying about your weight?
Most people who are happy with their weight and keep to a healthy weight don’t actually try. The whole ‘Diet Cycle’ of deprivation only leads to failure, when your resolve waivers it leads to binging and feelings of guilt and hopelessness. Many people with great weight loss intentions inadvertently find themselves trapped on the ‘Diet Cycle’ and tend to put more weight on little by little with each failed diet attempt.
My philosophy on weight loss is that diets don’t work.
What I have found is that many of my overweight clients have a high level of disconnection from their body’s signalling mechanisms. As a result:
- They don’t know when they are genuinely hungry.
- They don’t know when they are genuinely full.
- They don’t know how to distinguish stomach hunger from mouth hunger, or indeed hunger from thirst, tiredness or general discomfort.
- They don’t know how to recognise the body’s pleasure in certain foods.
- They don’t know how to come to terms with some of their feelings, and then use food as compensation. They eat to feel better because they don’t know how to distinguish emotional “good feelings” from the stomach’s feelings of satisfaction.
